Location: The tagged tree is left of the No.16 fairway. There are others, also on No. 16 as well as other Beech varieties on that hole (thus the hole name).
Tree information: Easily identified because the trunks look like an elephant leg. This is perhaps the best of specimen trees. The specimens at Mt Auburn Cemetery and the Arnold arboretum justify a trip to Boston. Those trees are 150 years older than this one.
Size: 50’ to 100 ‘tall with equal spread in width.
Growth rate: Fairly slow growing. Usually only a foot a year or less in our climate.
Foliage description: very light green evolving to darker green as the season evolves.

Provenance: Grown by Handy Nursery in Boring, OR. Purchased from Birch Creek Garden Company and planted in 1994.
